Justice under stress

The Justice Under Stress campaign was launched in October 2008 to bring together all the Justice Unions, Napo, PCS, POA, UCU and Unison to defend jobs and services in the Justice Sector and to fight against privatisation and for more resources.

 

Justice Week 8-12 December 2008

In December 2008 the Justice Under Stress campaign held a very sucessful series of events to draw attention to the need for a properly resourced justice sector.  These included:

  • The publication and press lauch of research commissioned by the Justice Forum from the Centre for Crime and Justice studies.  Download a copy here. Criminal justice resources staffing and workloads pdf
  • Parliamentary activity including early day motions and adjournment debates highlighting the stress experienced by workers in the justice system.
  • A major lobby of parliament on Wednesday 10 December.
  • Three regional joint union Public Services Not Private Profit meetings in Sheffield, Southampton and Liverpool.
  • A mass lobby of MPs in their constituencies over the weekend of 12/13 December.

Crime and the Recession Seminar - June 2009

On 16 June 2009 the Justice Under Stress Campaign ran a very successful seminar to look at the impact of the recession on crime and how this in turn wold impact on resources and workloads across the criminal justice system.

  • Andrew Neilson, Assistant Director of the Howard League for Peanl Reform
  • Belinda Brooks-Gordon, Reacher in Psychology and Social Policy, Birkbeck College London
