Veterans in the CJS

Napo is campainging about the number of and lack of support for ex-armed services personnel caught up in the criminal justice system.  Napo, and many Services organisations, believe that not enough is being done to divert veterans to relevant advice, welfare and counselling services.

Research undertaken by Napo in 2009 suggested that there are between 10,000 and 20,000 former Services personnel  currently in the criminal justice system in prison or on probation or parole.

Two reports were published by Napo in August 2008 and September 2009.

Ex-Armed Services Personnel in the Criminal Justice System - August 2008

Armed Forces and the Criminal Justice System - 25 September 2009

A series of meetings was organised under the auspices of the Justice Unions Group and chaired by Elfyn Llwyd MP.  These involved representatives of unions, services voluntary organisations and charities and practitioners from all sections of the justice system.
