According to "Yes Minister" Gonzo - the wives of the people who run the country... Unfortunately, the Mail and the News of the World, and all the other similar hate-filled rags hold significant sway over a large number of people in this country. I remember a survey some time ago that claimed that something like 70% of the voting electorate got their political information solely from the tabloids, although I can't remember where I read it |

I read in the Daily Mail today a judge banned gang members from posting pictures on "social" websites of themelves making gun shapes with their fingers or in a group with their friends. Some "crime commentators" said this was a "dose of common sense" First thing I ask is, if its so damaging why did the Mail print the picture, so now instead of their 3 friends seeing it, millions have? second thing is the posting of pictures a root cause of gang problems? - I hardly think so, thirdly, the main gang members have been potted, for up to 3 years, the type of social networking they'll do now will likely have a far more serious effect than some rapper style posing. Is it just me or does this seem to be completely missing the point about gang crime and its causes, surely gangs have been around longer than t'internet. |
