I think that they got this one right. Sure, the force was both excessive and extreme, but there were also severe extenuating circumstances. As usual, the red tops are having a field day and the leaders of the political parties are all trying to outdo each other by making spurious claims about what they householder can/cannot do. We must also look at the effects that the beating had on the victim who suffered 'severe and lasting brain damage which makes it impossible for him to stand trial'. Mr. Hussein’s Barrister remarked that the intruder seemed to have ‘recovered enough from his brain damage to resume his criminal career'! You have to laugh  |

Apparently! so the new benchmark for a gbh committed by up to 4 assailants with a weapon is a 12 month suspended, as long as you can show provocation. A whole new emphasis on "he spilled my beer" perhaps - way to go. |
