The TUC website carries extensive info on Health & Safety as a topic and how attention to H&S can help unions organise.
TUC "Hazards at Work" book: From the link http://www.tuc.org.uk/h_and_s/index.cfm , individual chapters on individual risks from this extensive TUC H&S reference manual are now available on-line. To access them click on a subject on the left of the intro page and if there is a corresponding chapter available then you can access it through the orange box that appears on the page. For an example, see this extract on Lone Working: http://www.tuc.org.uk/h_and_s/loneworking.cfm. Napo supplies its accredited H&S Reps with hard copies of the Hazards at Work book.
TUC "Risks" e-bulletin (weekly): This link: http://www.tuc.org.uk/newsroom/register.cfm will take you to the TUC’s Registration page. From this link you can sign up to receive H&S alerts and general news. There is a choice of many other topics such as the economy; law at work; organisation & recruitment; job vacancies in unions, and news from specific regions.
TUC H&S Training: All Napo H&S Reps are encouraged to consider doing the H&S Stage 1 qualification to help them carry out their role. This link: http://www.tuc.org.uk/h_and_s/index.cfm?mins=34 gives training info and links to UnionLearn for details of the courses, which are almost always free, and can be done at local Further Education colleges around the UK, or online. For an example, follow this link http://www.unionlearn.org.uk/courses/index.cfm/citem/4301 to see Stage 1 training avaialbility nationally.

The HSE website gives a large amount of very useful info on the full range of H&S topics – this link http://www.hse.gov.uk/contact/index.htm takes you to their infoline contact number. They also publish a range of e-bulletins and you can sign up for any of these at: http://www.hse.gov.uk/news/subscribe/index.htm . A particularly helpful one is the Stress Update Bulletin - a current example is at http://content.govdelivery.com/bulletins/gd/UKHSE-58b01 (but please note, to recieve updates you will need to sign up to the e-bulletin service)
