Love fell-walking?

Seen the NAPSAC adverts in Napo News?

Not sure what NAPSAC is?

Well, read on…

NAPSAC is the name of an informal group within Napo drawn together by a mutual love of fell-walking. It is made up of Probation and CAFCASS colleagues at all levels and their friends who get together a couple of times a year.

The group started life in 1976 when a group of Napo members organised a sponsored walk to raise money for the Edridge Fund. Such was the feeling generated that people wanted to continue to meet regularly and have done so ever since (over 36 years!).

We stay in youth hostels, often taking most of the hostel over, and we try (pretty successfully!) to create a relaxed and friendly atmosphere – even with numbers varying between 25 and 60. Amongst others, people with families and people who come on their own seem to appreciate and enjoy this.

We aim to offer a good value five-night break in the Lakes each May half-term and elsewhere in the UK in October.  We are proud to continue our association with and support for Edridge and at our Brecon meet in October 2011 we raised over £1,700 for the Fund during a sponsored fell-walking event.

Quite a number of people who come have a Probation or CAFCASS connection, but often only very tenuous (!) so the informal rule about not talking ‘shop’ works well and contributes to a very relaxing time.

We offer arranged and led walks each day, which vary from gentle ambles to serious hikes over longer distances. According to your taste or ability, you can join a group or, of course, just do your own thing.
