The Justice Committee will beholding its second evidence session as part of its inquiry into Transforming Rehabilitation on Tuesday 27 February.

TR has attracted criticism since its implementation, including in reports by the National Audit Office, the Public Accounts Committee, and by HM Chief Inspectors of Probation and Prisons in reports on resettlement services for short term prisoners and for prisoners serving 12 months or more.

The Justice Committee is seeking in its inquiry to find out what needs to be done to improve the probation system and the second evidence session will be looking at a number of issues including:

  • Voluntary sector involvement in probation;
  • Through-the-Gate, including specific services provided to offenders;
  • Rehabilitation activity and support; and
  • The role of Police and Crime Commissioners.

Witnesses will be:

  • Jacob Tas, Chief Executive, Nacro
  • Andy Keen-Downs, Chief Executive Officer, Pact
  • Steve Matthews, National Contracts Manager, Shelter
  • Lorraine Preece, Chief Executive Officer, YSS Ltd
  • Beverley Toone, Senior Employment Projects Manager, Business in the Community
  • Sam Boyd, Policy and Impact Manager, Switchback
  • David Lloyd, Chair, Association of Police and Crime Commissioners

The session -  which will be at 10.00am in Committee Room 6, Palace of Westminster - is open to the public  There is no system of tickets or advance booking for seats in the public section of the committee room, but there is normally no problem in seating all members of the public who wish to attend.
