Napo is a trade union and professional association representing thousands of members working in probation and family courts.

We have formal recognition agreements with the employers meaning that we can negotiate for you and help protect you if you have problems at work.

At Napo, we pride ourselves on being an inclusive organisation.  We have members spanning all different grades and roles in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and a sliding subscription rate to help make membership affordable.

We have a strong commitment to equality, diversity and social justice.  They are the underpinning values to all that we do.

  • As a professional association we publish two internationally respected journals which are free to members.  We work to protect the professionalism of our members and maintain professional standards and quality training.
  • As a trade union, we are part of the wider union movement and are affiliated to the Trade Union Congress and the General Federation of Trade Unions. We take a full role in campaigns to protect terms and conditions as well as wider national and international campaigns for justice and protecting the public sector.
  • As a member-led organisation, members can get involved in all levels of Napo at a branch and national level.  Our annual conference is open to all members and we maintain strong links with our branches through our national executive committee.  Napo members can also benefit from financial services, legal advice and support, healthcare as well as social activities.

Napo’s relative size and specialist nature means we are close to our members and to those we negotiate with on your behalf.
