The workforce statistics bulletin looks at staffing levels and staff inflows and outflows for NOMS since April 2010. It carefully describes the NOMS structure but admits that detail for the NPS is somewhat lacking since information imported from probation trusts last year is not altogether helpful. The NPS now shows as a minority part of an organisation dominated by the Prison Service.

Staff numbers in the NPS increased by 4.3% (360 FTE) in the quarter to 31st March 2015. This will largely have been on account of the new intakes of PQF learners. On 31st March 2015, the NPS workforce is recorded as 8730. On 30th June 2014 it stood at 8300 and dropped to 8200 by September 30th (These figures are FTEs – Full Time Equivalents)
