Women in Napo – Vicarious Trauma – women who work with women

Following on from the recent Women in Napo seminar in March with Becky Shepherd, Lecturer at London Southbank University, on vicarious trauma – when the negative impact of working with a traumatised client group becomes overwhelming – Becky discussed her research findings into the gendered impact of vicarious trauma on women who supervise women. This research was focused on probation but we believe it is also of interest to Family Court Section women members.

We were planning to hold a follow-up training event in May with Becky (with potentially more to follow as well as at Napo’s AGM) for women practitioners on recognising and dealing with vicarious trauma. The aim is to provide a supportive space for women to talk about their experiences and to learn more on this topic, including what to do if you think you may be experiencing vicarious trauma, and where to go for support.

Unfortunately, we have to reschedule this initial planned follow-up online May training event to a later date but we will let everyone know as soon as possible of a new date, likely to be June now.
