How progression works...

  • NPS will have a pay calculator for people. Using their current salary point, this will work out how much they will get for 2018-19 (paid immediately along with the £300 non-consolidated compensation payment); for 2019-20 (paid on 1st April 1919, with top up payments made in November 2019).
  • The award also guarantees an additional step for all staff still below their band maxima on 1st April 2020.
  • If the CBPPF has been agreed staff can expect to progress a further step on 1st April 2021 and each 1st April after until they reach their band maxima.
  • If the CBPPF hasn’t been agreed and isn’t in place for 1st April 2021, the NPS stated position is to expect to make progression payments, in line with practice in 2020-21.
  • Band 1 moves from 18 steps to 4 in 2018-19 and then 2 from 2019/20 – from £16584 to £17764 in 1 year
  • Band 2 moves from 23 points to 10 in 2018-19 and then 6 from 2019-20 – from £17934 to £22257 in under 6 years
  • Band 3 moves from 23 points to 10 in 2018-19 and then 6 from 2019-20 – from £22261 to £28200 in under 6 years.
  • Band 4 moves from 23 points to 10 in 2018-19 and then 6 from 2019-20 – from £29038 to £37,174 in under 6 years.
  • Band 5 moves from 14 points to 6 in 2018-19 and then 5 from 2019-20 – from £36084 to £41020 in under 5 years, possibly far less depending upon starting point 5% pay on promotion potentially taking a promoted PO to 1 step off the max on appointment due to overlaps with the Band 4 range.
  • Band 6 moves from 19 points to 10 in 2018-19 and then 6 points from 2019-20 – from £39427 to £49016 in under 6 years, possibly less again being impacted by 5% on promotion for any SPO’s at the maxima moving to the 4th step on appointment.
